What is the importance of IEC certificate?
If you want to import or export any product, then the IEC Code is mandatory. Without IEC Code you can not do international trade. IEC Code is an import export code which is issued by the government. It is a unique code of your firm or business for import and export. If you have a private limited firm then your company pan card would be IEC code. Not automatically but you have to apply for IEC code.
How to apply for IEC certificate?
Any kind of firm or business can apply for IEC Code. To apply for the IEC Code you can visit the government website https://www.dgft.gov.in/ or you can hire an agent for it. You can login to the DGFT website and can apply IEC code. It is a very easy process. It costs 500 INR if you register IEC code on your own on DGFT and if you hire an agent then they may take 1000 or 2000 INR.
What is the purpose of IEC Code?
The purpose of the IEC certificate is to monetize international trade activity and allow easy analysis of imported exported goods. And also easy to get benefit of government schemes and programs for the exporter/importer from IEC code.

Practically it is used for custom clearance and closing the import/export transaction in a Bank.
